Old Newspaper Cartoons, Gene Hazelton Sketches

My Name is Margaret Marker. I was doing some research on some old cartoon sketches Gene Hazelton had given our family. Sorry to hear he has passed away. My Father Roy Marker who had designed this home in San Diego right on San Carlos Country club golf course. Gene Bought our home in 1973. There he lived for I dont know how long. He did give us a gift of his work and talents. Here are the sketches and orginal envelope he sent us. You really need to enlarge the letter he wrote. Enjoy

Sorry I didnt take better care of these Cartoons and other Items. They have been in the envelope ever since they were recieved. When our parents passed away, Erma and Roy ( God rest their souls) we separated the cartoons among us. Some where lost to flood. Treasures now , I think I should frame them. I really hope you enjoy Gene Hazelton's work. He moved to our home in 1973. I believe him and his family. I was so young at the time, I dont remember. But, the home my dad, Roy B. Marker built was a five bedroom home. I believe the Hazeltons put in a pool from what I see from Satellite. I miss that house and the memories.. Still in original package

I Really dont know how this package is still surviving ,, but this is what theycame in and are still kept in , under paper is cardboard and plastic. So next I will show you the house he bought and lived in. Also of course I have to add a picture of Me and my siblings at that age in that house. any questions?

Recieved an Email from Gene Hazeltons son Allen

"Hey Maggie,

Much of the old pictures of the house are currently boxed up in my storage unit, but once I dig into them I'll be happy to share them with you and your family. I do remember the room with the yellow flowers, it was our guest room. I had the room next to it. I fondly remember the sounds of the birds, the golfers and the smell of the orange blossoms wafting through my room. Yes, we did put in a pool, in the late spring of 1974. I even have pictures of it being built. Dad remained good friends of Stan and Joanne until his death in 2005. My mother passed away in 1987, but Dad remained in the house until he became disabled and had to go into a nursing home. in 2003. I was in charge of taking care of the house and then ultimately packing up the contents and selling it. It was rough on the family. So many great memories in that wonderful home. I often drive by and look at it...

That house meant so my to my family, especially my parents. They were so happy living there and always talked about how lucky they were to have it. We were blessed to have it and have lived in it for so long. All fond memories...

I'll stay in contact with you and get some cartoons to replace the damaged/ruined ones. I know Dad would be thrilled to know you still have the ones he gave you and we've connected. Maybe we could talk on the phone sometime. I would be happy to share my memories and provide you with any information you would like to know.
